ATLANTA — With districts across the state of Georgia starting school, drivers should be aware of the law when it comes to stopping for buses.
Here's a look at the law and what you'll want to know in situations on the road where you're around a school bus.
GEORGIA SCHOOL BUS TRAFFIC LAWS:
On a two lane road, vehicles traveling in both directions must stop.
On a multi-lane road that is paved across, vehicles traveling in both directions must stop.
On a divided highway with dirt, grass or barrier median, vehicles behind the bus must stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction don't have to stop, but must use caution.
According to the Georgia Department of Administrative Services, "failure to comply can result in fines up to a $1000, up to six points on a driving record, and other penalties."
