Missing man pulled from Lake Lanier near East Bank Park, DNR says

Authorities said Walter Juarez Guardado from Roswell was pulled from the water around noon on Monday near East Bank Park. They identified him as a "drowning victim."

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities have found the man who went missing after falling off a jet ski on Lake Lanier this weekend. 

Georgia Department of Natural Resources said Walter Juarez Guardado from Roswell was pulled from the water around noon on Monday near East Bank Park. Authorities identified him as a "drowning victim." 

DNR sonar found Juarez Guardado under 20 feet of water.

The 37-year-old fell off his jet ski while wearing a life jacket on Saturday. According to DNR, witness accounts say he swam back out to get the jet ski and went under. He never resurfaced.

His girlfriend was looking for him Saturday evening but could not find him. Crews from Gwinnett and Hall County fire departments took over the nighttime search with the rescue mission growing over the weekend. Gwinnett County Fire Department searched for Juarez Guardado Sunday using aviation and boat-mounted sonar until dark. Game wardens with the DNR also assisted in the search with sonar equipment. 

DNR identified the man after notifying his family.
