ATLANTA — Two men have been arrested in connection with the ambush of an Atlanta police officer and theft of his service weapon in southwest Atlanta.
According to Tracy Flanagan with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, brothers Isaac and Quentin McPherson have been arrested in connection with the incident.
It happened at a gas station at the corner of Campbellton and County Line roads in southwest Atlanta.
Police said the officer was initially called to the gas station due to a disturbance where those causing it were refusing the leave. When the officer arrived, he found one of the people allegedly involved in the incident in an altercation with the clerk.
The officer ended up in a struggle of his own as he attempted to break up the melee.
"He approached the subject and the subject started a fight - a physical fight - with my officer and while he's in the physical fight with one suspect, another suspect came from behind him and jumped his back," Atlanta Police Major Celeste Murphy said.
Murphy said that while he was struggling with both suspects his weapon was taken from him.
"Of course, it's extremely high-level with us right now to get that weapon back," Murphy said.
Murphy said that police had surveillance video from the scene and were examining it, along with talking with witnesses in order to gather clues in the case.
Quentin McPherson has been charged with simple battery, aggravated assault against a peace officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, removal or attempted removal of a weapon from a public official and robbery by force.
Isaac McPherson has been charged with removal or attempted removal of a weapon from a public official, robbery by force, aggravated assault against a peace officer, simple battery against a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Quentin's first appearance was on Saturday; Isaac's first appearance will be one day this week. Both men remain in the Fulton County Jail.
