Homicide investigation underway after body found in woods near APD precinct

On Wednesday, the medical examiner said the death was caused by a gunshot wound, and the manner of death is a homicide.

ATLANTA — The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office is calling a death investigation a homicide after learning more about a deceased person discovered in the woods this week.

Atlanta Police were called Tuesday to the scene of Old Gordon Road and Collier Road about a "person down" around 10:15 a.m. That's when they they found a burning body near the wood line. This area is not far from an APD precinct.

Just after noon that day, 11Alive SkyTracker saw an area blocked off with crime scene tape and investigators in the area just south of the Zone 4 precinct.

On Wednesday, the medical examiner said the death was caused by a gunshot wound, and the manner of death is a homicide. 

Homicide detectives are handling the case and looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
