International Day of the Girl: Events kick off at Avalon Plaza

She is Safe holds a week of activities to raise awareness about trafficking and abuse.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — In celebration of International Day of the Girl, non-profit She Is Safe is partnering with Avalon to host a week of events celebrating girls and women.

International Day of the Girl is held every year on October 11 and aims to highlight & address the needs and challenges girls face while promoting girls’ empowerment. 

The week of events kicked off today in the Avalon Plaza. Parents and caregivers were invited to bring their pre-school aged tots for free playtime and a butterfly craft. The event will also feature a special activity for moms and caregivers. Therapy dogs, a photo booth, and recreational activities were also available during the event.

Upcoming events are listed below:


AvalOM | Wednesday, October 9, 6 pm to 7 pm

A yoga class will be held in the Plaza highlighting ways to keep girls safe from human trafficking.


Avalon Sip & Stroll |
Thursday, October 10, 5 pm to 8 pm

Guests are invited to sip and shop along Avalon Boulevard with a portion of the sales benefiting She Is Safe.


From Avalon to the World: Day of the Girl Celebration | Friday, October 11 at 4:30 pm

Safe Haven’s Butterfly Sculpture will be unveiled at 4:30 pm. At 5:30 pm, guests are invited to take part in a live butterfly release that symbolizes setting girls free from a life of slavery and trafficking. 


Free a Girl. Change the World. She Is Safe Fundraising Gala |
 Friday October 11 at 6 pm

Following the butterfly release, guests are invited to a gala at The Hotel at Avalon.
