Second student arrested after loaded gun found at Forsyth County middle school, sheriff's office says

The student at Little Mill Middle School has been charged with terroristic threats, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A second student has been arrested after a loaded gun was found at Little Mill Middle School in Forsyth County earlier this week, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office

During a follow-up investigation into a 14-year-old who brought a gun to the school on Tuesday, sheriff's deputies discovered another student was involved in the incident. That student was allegedly aware that the teen had the gun at the school, talked with him about it and also recorded a video of both the student and the gun. No one was hurt in the incident.

However, the sheriff's office said they later posted the video to social media, which raised more concerns at the school and from parents. According to a release, the video was taken during the school day and not reported to school officials or school resource officers on campus, nor was it posted with a warning for students and parents.

The student has been charged with terroristic threats, which is a misdemeanor, and has been removed from the school, the sheriff's office said. The juvenile had no part in the 14-year-old bringing the gun to campus, the sheriff's office added.

Detectives said their preliminary investigation revealed that the gun brought to the school had been properly secured in the home by the teenager's parents and that the teen secretly accessed the locked storage container without the parents' knowledge.

Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said he is grateful that a student came forward to report the gun on campus and that it is how schools are kept safe.

"On the other side of this, those that did not report it, such as this 2nd juvenile who even posted it to social media, will be held accountable for their actions," Freeman stated. "As we wind down the school year, parents please talk to your students about good decisions, about consequences of stupid decisions and the vital importance of 'see something, say something' to avoid a tragedy here in Forsyth. It takes all of us to keep our schools safe."

This is an ongoing investigation, and currently, no additional charges are expected, the release said.
