Multiple teens shot, injured in DeKalb County, police say

All victims had non-life-threatening injuries, officers say.

ATLANTA — Four teens are hurt after a shooting on Glenwood Road Saturday, according to DeKalb County Police.

Just after 11 p.m., officers responded to the scene where they found a large group of teens, including those injured.

All victims had non-life-threatening wounds. They include:

  • Two 15-year-old girls who were shot in the leg
  • A 16-year-old girl who was shot in the arm
  • A 17-year-old boy with a graze wound to his arm

Police claim the group of teens had been at a house party nearby when they got into an altercation with another group of teens.

Officers add that the two groups briefly separated, but while the victim group was waiting for a bus, "individuals from the other group came back and fired several rounds" from a moving car.

Eric Garcia Salas said he has lived in the community for five years. He said he's used to sirens and flashing lights.

"Unfortunately, it's sad to say that it's been a very transitional area," Salas said. "And it happens more often than not. Actually, there was a drive-by shooting behind us, here, on Joyce; probably, I want to say, about a week or so ago."

Salas said crime has been rampant in the neighborhood. And this isn't even the first shooting in that area of Glenwood Road.

"There's been random carjackings at gunpoint as well," Salas said.

11Alive has covered at least three other shootings on Glenwood Road this year.

  • Feb: A man was shot and killed at a bus stop
  • March: A man was shot and killed during a drug deal
  • June: Five were hurt in a shooting outside of a lounge

Saturday night's shooting frightened Salas and his family.

"We heard about ten or so gunshots, close enough, nearby," Salas said. "It scared our dog. We got up to see a lot of police officers, a lot of police activity."

11Alive's Tresia Bowles stopped by nearby businesses in search of surveillance video. None of the businesses were open when the shooting happened. They and neighbors claim none of their cameras caught anything.

Neighbors are calling on police to step up before this situation gets out of control.

"There used to be actually a lot of police sitting at that gas station that's right there, right where the shooting happened," Salas said. "I think that if there was a little more police presence around the area, it'd maybe thwart this type of situation."

Salas said he hopes the teens recover.

So far, police said they have no one in custody.
